Look at Merkel – winless in district with three losses by eight points or less. Jacksboro’s 51-48 victory against Eastland was a great microcosm of the competitiveness of this district. SCENARIOS: No one is in or out yet in the area’s most competitive district top to bottom. A Whitesboro win over Paradise this week would set the four playoff teams and mean Whitesboro and Peaster would play for third in the finale. Brock and Pilot Point are undefeated and should play for the district title in Week 11. It’d come down to points in that scenario. The only way the Greyhounds don’t make it is if they lose out to Brock and Whitesboro, Paradise beats Whitesboro this week and there’s a three-way tie at 4-3 for the district’s last two spots. Peaster hasn’t officially clinched its first berth yet, but the double overtime win against Paradise last week goes a long way toward that feat. SCENARIOS: Since this district is eight teams and has been playing longer than anyone else, the scenarios are cut and dry. Vernon can cause some Week 11 drama by winning Friday, but if that doesn’t happen then it’s almost a given Mineral Wells and Bridgeport will meet in the finale to determine the third/fourth seeds. Iowa Park is also almost a lock for the second seed because it’s beaten both Mineral Wells and Bridgeport. If the Bulls beat Vernon, all four playoff teams are set because the Lions would have lost the head-to-head matchup with everyone at 1-3. Iowa Park is already in with two wins because this week’s Bridgeport-Vernon loser is guaranteed to be 0-3, meaning they can’t catch the Hawks (who are idle this week). SCENARIOS: Graham can wrap up the top seed by beating Mineral Wells on Friday. THIS WEEK: Decatur (2-1) at Hirschi (3-0), Lake Worth (2-1) at Gainesville (1-2), Burkburnett (0-3) vs. Also, the Coyotes hold a head-to-head win over Wylie. Randall is plus-12, WFHS is at 0 and Wylie is minus-12.
The Coyotes clinch with a win and a Wylie loss to Cooper due to being ahead of the Bulldogs in a three-way points tiebreaker that also includes Randall. If Old High wins, Plainview is eliminated from contention. Rider needs an Abilene Wylie or WFHS loss to clinch a playoff spot. And I don’t want to begin trying to hash out that mess. There’s a crazy scenario filled with several upsets where five teams – Cooper, Rider, Randall, WFHS and Wylie – all finished 3-2. One odd scenario this week is Randall gets into the playoffs with a win over the Rider, but the opposite result doesn’t get Rider in. Lubbock-Cooper is in and clinches a share of the district title with a win against Wylie. SCENARIOS: There are some wild scenarios that could play out in this district.
